Middlesex University offices to be assessed by Breeam standards

Sustainable office design is at the heart of the construction of a new office building in Barnet, it has been announced.

Middlesex University's new Hatchroft building had its topping out ceremony last week, with officials from the university, builders and council officers all highlighting the importance of sustainability to the project.

The building, has now reached its highest point of 14.3 metres and construction is nearing completion, according to the Hendon Times.

The newspaper reports that University vice chancellor Michael Driscoll said: "We are absolutely sure that the staff and students here are going to be thrilled with this building and it's going to be something that they can be proud of.

"The building will come with the highest environmental specifications. We want to set a precedent for the highest standard of excellence possible not just in the university, but in the whole of Barnet."

Recently, HBG North-East, a construction company overseeing the creation of two new buildings for Newcastle University, announced a record turnover of £188 million.

The company built the university's Devonshire building, the first academic building and offices in Britain to be awarded with BREEAM ((British Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) "excellent" status for its environmental design.
