More firms 'choosing sustainability'

More firms 'choosing sustainability' A new study has found that a growing number of businesses are won over by sustainable business practices.

The report by the Economist Intelligence Unit has found that 57 per cent of businesses believed the benefits of sustainable investment outweighed the costs, with a majority expecting to make a profit from adopting green practices.

It also reported a general trend suggesting that top-performing companies on the stock market tended to have a programme for sustainability in place. The "share price losers" however, often had no green-energy business strategy.

The study involved consultation with 1,200 firms worldwide, many of which showed their commitment to sustainability by endorsing future regulations to further encourage green business strategies

Such findings follow a recent interview with business energy consultant George Kehler in which he stated that low-carbon companies are becoming increasingly attractive to investors.

"Forward thinking companies" understand that being admired for sustainability has value, he told Matter Network.
