Network Rail has announced plans for the creation of a new national centre in Milton Keynes.
The organisation is planning to create a building which embraces sustainable office design and could be one of the greenest office spaces in the country when completed.
Construction of the centre is set to get underway next summer, with a pre-construction service agreement now in place with BAM Construction.
Network Rail chief executive Iain Coucher said the development would help unite some of the key national functions of the rail network under one roof and is a key milestone in delivering improved planning, teamwork and offering better support to routes.
Elsewhere, a new mixed-use office project has been earmarked for Liverpool.
The Wirral Waters waterfront could see investment of up to £4.5 billion and the creation of 14 million sq ft of new office space if planning consent for the initiative is agreed on.
