New non-domestic BREEAM standards to be introduced

A new set of non-domestic BREEAM standards are to be introduced to cover commercial and office design buildings, it has been announced.Newbuilder.co.uk reports that BREEAM Energy Star is to be launched this autumn and will focus on achieving government guidelines of zero carbon emission non-domestic buildings in the UK by 2019.
The scheme will work alongside communities and urban developments to help create a more sustainable future for UK business.
Martin Townsend, the new director of BREEAM, told the online publication: "The aim of the BREEAM family is to provide a comprehensive set of sustainable building standards based on robust scientific evidence and developed through consultation with industry and with strong market engagement."
In other news, it was recently reported by HV News that the government is to review the sustainable office interiors of all its offices later this year in a bid to become more BREEAM compliant.
MP for West Bromwich Tom Watson has been charged with heading the review and improving sustainability across all government departments.
