A new office block will be built in Taunton after proposals from the developers received planning permission.
Taunton Deane Borough Council has given the go-ahead for a 2,500-square metre construction in Priory Bridge Road car park in the town centre.
St Modwen put forward its plans for the office refurbishment and expects the project to take just over a year to complete.
The developer hopes to start work this summer and plans to finish it in 2012.
Development manager for St Modwen Pete Davies said: "We're delighted that works to develop our first office will start on site in the next few months."
The project comes as part of Taunton's regeneration agenda and the first phase of the job called the Firepool scheme is expected to transform 123 acres of the town over the next 12 years.
Earlier this month, the council received a £1.65 million investment boost from the Homes and Communities Agency to replace old properties with new high-quality housing.
