A new campaign has been launched in Leeds by a group of activists keen to provide cheap community office space in the city centre.

The group plans to form a cooperative to deliver affordable office space for businesses in need in the region and is raising funds in order to do so.

So far, the group has raised more than £1,000 and is on its way to achieving its goal of £10,000 - at which time it can apply to local banks for a mortgage enabling it to purchase office interior space.

Activist Jesse Harris commented: "The idea is that ordinary people can take the initiative and create community assets. We don't always have to rely on council or government to do things for us."

Elsewhere in the city, buildings Number 3 and Number 10 at Wellington Place have received planning permission from local council officials for the creation of 145,000 sq ft of new office space.
