A new office construction project has been given the green light by planners from Salford City Council.
The development will see the creation of 380,000 sq ft of new, modern office design space at the former Colgate factory in Salford Quays. Situated on an 8.4-acre site, the property is being refurbished by private equity firm the Carlyle Group and joint venture partner Abstract Nikal.
Mark Harris, director at the Carlyle Group, said: "Our commitment to commence construction immediately on the Soapworks site as soon as we have full planning in place, reflects our confidence in both the project and the Manchester region."
When complete, the building is to be renamed Soapworks and form part of the Ivy Wharf mixed use development.
The Carlyle Group was established in 1987 and presently has assets under management totalling approximately $110 billion (£76.2 billion). The majority of its projects are carried out in the US, although around 25 per cent of its business is carried out in Europe.
