A new £2.6 million office construction deal will form the first steps in the regeneration of Southend, it has been revealed.
Southend Council has announced plans for the development of new office space at Progress Road Industrial Estate in a move that it feels will "kick-start regeneration" in the area.
Denise Rossiter, operations director of Essex Chambers of Commerce, said: "This is fantastic investment, which will allow private enterprise growth."
Alan Richards, the council's group manager for asset management, added that building work will hopefully get underway in 2012, with a design team for the project now in place and planning consent well on the way to being achieved.
Meanwhile, the European Commission recently gave its consent for the construction of up to four million sq ft of new office space in central London, with joint venture partners Lend Lease and London & Continental Railways set to spend £1.3 billion on the project.
