Office construction work has begun at London's iconic new Walkie Talkie Tower at 20 Fenchurch Street.
Set to take approximately three years to complete, the project aims to deliver around 3,000 new jobs to the capital and will cost £500 million in total.
George Iacobescu, chief executive officer of one of the joint developers on the project, said: "We are delighted to be able to apply our extensive high-rise experience to such an iconic development."
He added that the building will be a major boost to London's economy and is one of the biggest projects to get underway in the City in recent history.
Elsewhere in the capital, a new £40 million office building has been proposed for the city's West End.
The development will include a new 60,000 sq ft office building, as well as retail space and luxury apartments. Demolition work at the site is set to begin in the coming months, with completion of the project forecast for mid-2013.
