A speedy recovery in the office construction sector is essential for the wellbeing of the industry in general, it has been claimed.
Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the Federation of Master Builders, said developers need greater confidence that investment will be forthcoming if they are to help get the UK back on track in terms of office construction and the delivery of vital new schemes.
He commented: "It is absolutely fundamental in terms of getting the country back on its feet because […] it underpins all the major infrastructure projects and the housing market."
Mr Berry added that government cutbacks and insecurity are weighing heavily on the industry at present.
According to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics, UK construction output decreased by 4.7 per cent in the first quarter of 2011, compared with a decrease of 2.3 per cent in the previous quarter.
