Companies have been advised as to the best ways to improve employee flexibility and productivity through office design.
According to the Need Office Space blog, designing the best environment to get the most out of staff is important for a firm's bottom line, as well as promoting worker happiness.
Indeed, good lighting and adequate daylight can help to reduce absenteeism by as much as 15 percent, while installing IT systems that allow for mobile working can help to boost productivity by as much as 20 per cent as it allows staff to get out of the office once in a while.
Finally, creating an environment that is healthy and pleasing to the eye is another key ingredient of improving employee happiness, with the introduction of plants adding greenery and vibrant colours helping to inspire workers.
Meanwhile, office refurbishment can also help to make businesses more environmentally sound.
For example, Guardian News & Media recently saw its headquarters in London recognised by the Carbon Trust for reducing its carbon output by seven per cent over the last year through sustainable office design.
