Office design 'should integrate lighting'

Modern office design should integrate lighting aspects from day one, one industry expert has claimed.

Jason Bruges, creative director and founder of Jason Bruges Studio, said that sustainability and responsible office construction and design go hand in hand.

He argued that a focus on reducing energy and resource use can reap dividends for firms, with overall conceptualisation aiming to reduce costs both at the building phase and beyond.

Mr Bruges commented: "Ten per cent of a building's energy budget might be spent on lighting ... but you have really got to think about how you use it and why you use it and therefore you do need professionals to design that in and out."

Elsewhere, John Barwise, chairman of the Cumbria Green Business Forum, recently said companies are coming round to the idea that sustainable office design and other green practices can benefit them in the long run.
