Office refurbishment 'to become more important'

A new report by GVA Grimley has highlighted the growing importance of office refurbishment to meeting the needs for sustainability in the UK.
Businesses across the UK will need to embrace sustainability if the government is to meet its carbon reduction targets in the years ahead and as a result, the future office refurb sector will gain a more prominent position in business plans.
"Future regulatory and occupier requirements will increase the need and demand for existing offices to be refurbished," the report noted.
It added market trends at present would appear to show refurbishment rather than construction is the more economical approach to creating sustainable office space.
Elsewhere, James Murray, editor of BusinessGreen.com, recently said firms across the UK need more incentives to make the prospect of going green more attractive to them.
He noted more people are becoming aware of their environmental impact and the government therefore needs to do more to give businesses the boost they need to embrace sustainable design practices.
