Office relocation for Somerset council

Somerset council has agreed to carry out an office relocation project in order to reduce its annual costs.

The council has agreed to vacate up to 40 per cent of its offices in the region, as budget constrictions have meant many departments have been forced to downsize and consolidate with other council areas.

Ken Maddock, leader of the Conservative-run council, said: "We are embarking on a comprehensive asset review and we will be discussing that at cabinet next Monday (June 28th) … The jobs will have to go first and then we will not need the office space."

He added that there can be no "sacred cows" when it comes to tackling the UK's deficit.

Meanwhile, Llandudno Junction in Wales is set to become the new home for the back room staff of the Welsh Assembly Government once it is completed.

The project recently achieved a BREEAM Excellent rating and will likely be completed by the end of next year.
