Office-workers 'need to watch health'
28-02-2008
A new report by health insurance provider Prudential has advised that some of the nation's 29 million workers are failing to strike a healthy balance when it comes to eating habits at work. The study finds that around 23.5 million UK employees are snacking on unhealthy, quick-fix snacks while at work.
Around 80 per cent of workers are thought to eat badly while on the job, with desk-bound employees found to be the most unhealthy group.
"Encouraging staff to take a balanced approach to healthy eating can have a positive impact on employees' stress levels as well as their overall wellbeing," advised Katie Roswell, marketing director at Pru Health.
She also advised that by providing gym access and other fitness initiatives can improve worker morale and productivity.
Recent advice from the National Association of Professional Standards in Industry has also advised businesses to make sure office designs are providing a healthy, safe environment for workers.
"Don't just clean for appearance, clean for health," the organisation states.
