Kingswood Civic Centre is having a £6 million refurbishment carried out that is due for completion in autumn next year.
The office interior space is being expanded at the property and an improved One Stop Shop for local residents is also being set up.
Sustainable office design is at the forefront of the initiative and the local council has worked to put in place a number of features to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the premises.
"[Including] low-energy automatic lighting, using natural ventilation rather than air conditioning where possible, solar panels for heating water and generating energy, and high efficiency boilers," council spokesman Ryan Skeets told Kingswood People.
Elsewhere, Paul Anderson, programme director for infrastructure outsourcing at Capgemini, recently noted that boosting sustainability could hold the key to improved profitability for many businesses and enterprises across the UK.
He argued that greener office space could provide "massive savings" while reducing carbon footprints across the country.
