The latest report from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) has highlighted a modest improvement in UK commercial property in recent months.
According to the Rics Commercial Property Market Survey Q4 2010, 18 per cent more surveyors felt they will see more lettings and sales of office interior space in the months ahead than had been the case in the previous quarter.
Simon Rubinsohn, Rics chief economist, said: "While it is true that some optimism is returning to the real estate world, the commercial market still faces significant challenges. Regional variations are becoming increasingly visible with the picture on rents and capital values broadly reflecting the emerging economic recovery."
Elsewhere, an inquiry by the Westminster Sustainable Business and the subsequent release of its report Leaner and Greener: Delivering Effective Estate Management recently showed that local government could cut costs by up to £7 billion if they embraced sustainable office design.
