Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council (MBC) has completed its shortlist of preferred contractors for the construction of its new headquarters in the town centre.
Crain's Manchester Business reported a new modern office design space is to be constructed for the council, which when finished will house more than 2,000 members of staff.
The project is hoped to be completed by autumn 2012, with the first tenders for the deal sent out in July this year.
John Patterson, executive director at Rochdale MBC, said: "The relocation of the municipal offices is a key step in the regeneration plans for the town centre and getting the right contractor on board is crucial if we are to make sure this building meets the needs of Rochdale residents."
Elsewhere in the region, broadcast systems company TSL recently announced plans to set up a new office in a former pie factory in Salford.
Having worked alongside Peel Group for the last two years, TSL is now partnering the company in renovation of the building into a new headquarters.
