Sandwell council set for office relocation
14-05-2008
Council workers in the West Midlands are set to benefit from a new office layout, it has been revealed.Moves by Sandwell council will see staff transferred from a number of sites across the borough to an office fit out which is proposed to be built on the site of the former Oldbury bus station.
The plans, which were recently given the green light by finance chiefs, were reported to help cut down on costs as much of the council's current office accommodation is leased out, the Express & Star reports.
Commenting on the office layout, Steve Eling, cabinet member for resources, claimed the move could assist the council with productivity.
He said: "We are talking about accommodation for hundreds of staff, so it is very much a major project.
"It certainly has the potential for savings of six-figure sums each year."
Earlier this month, Derby city council gave approval for two multimillion pound mixed-used developments which are set to incorporate elements of modern office design.
