Southampton council has completed the move to purpose-built office space in the city centre that it hopes will help improve customer service.
The new premises at One Guildhall Square will act as the council's one-stop-shop for local residents - known as Gateway - to enquire about housing benefits, council tax, housing allocations and much more besides. It will also act as a cash office where people can come to pay their bills.
"The move of Gateway is part of the council's long-term accommodation strategy, which will see council staff working from only three general purpose office buildings in the city centre," commented councillor Jeremy Moulton.
He added that the move will help to save the council £700,000 a year from 2014-15.
The new Gateway scheme will have more desks - enabling people to be dealt with faster - and is being run by the council's business partner Capita.
Elsewhere, City of York Council recently received government approval for the refurbishment of its office interior space at the West Offices building on Station Rise.
