Three new towers are to be created surrounding the Shard in London, it has been revealed.
Plans were submitted to Southwark council last week, according to Labour councillor Peter John.
The new development has been nicknamed the "Shardettes" and the towers will provide an additional 600,000 sq ft of commercial property space, a new cinema, shops and hotel, as well as up to 370 homes.
Situated in London Bridge Quarter, the Shard project is part of the regeneration of the area and is inspired by the historic sight of London's masts and spires.
Work on the Shard project is expected to be fully completed by May 2012.
Elsewhere in the capital, Bloomberg recently reported that the West End of the city is proving increasingly popular for new developments, with firms like British Land making considerable investment in the area.
The firm recently announced a £330 million regeneration programme for an office interior project on Baker Street.
