Businesses across the UK could benefit in attracting the top talent in their field by having the best sustainable office design and green credentials, it has been stated.
According to Paul Edwards, chair of the British Council for Offices' Environmental Sustainability Group and head of sustainability at Hammerson, there is now a new generation of environmentally-conscious employees that take green matters especially seriously when deciding upon where to work.
"I think younger people these days understand environmental issues a lot more so therefore to attract talent and retain talent, companies are seeing a need to deliver on the environmental promise," he commented.
A recent survey carried out by Avery revealed that 47 per cent of the UK’s office workers said their offices have actively become greener as a result of the economic situation, as staff put more effort into recycling, turning off unused lights and saving on the heating bill.
Furthermore, 69 per cent of office workers said that they had recycled paper in the office, 67 per cent claimed they had turned off computer equipment and machinery when not in use and 61 per cent said they switched off unnecessary lighting.
