Businesses should be encouraged to invest in environmentally friendly measures, it has been claimed.
Tony Rooke, environmental manager for Logica, said sustainable office design and all forms of sustainability improvements should be encouraged by the government and the best way to do this is to make green initiatives more attractive to carry out.
He commented: "The easiest way to do it is to make the choice of sustainable behaviour cheaper than the choice to be unsustainable and in some cases remove [the latter]."
Mr Rooke added that no matter the outcome of the upcoming general election, whoever wins must continue to promote sustainability in the workplace.
Elsewhere, property consultant GVA Grimley recently published research showing that 42 per cent of property investors explicitly allow extra funds for sustainable office design when purchasing a new project.
Indeed, the report revealed that many companies have continued to place environmental awareness and responsibility high on their agendas.
