The issue of sustainable office design has become key to developers in recent months following the introduction of new legislation.
While many businesses are interested in sustainable office design because of its environmental benefits, with many large firms viewing sustainable design as a key tenet of their new business philosophies, it is has been the actions of the government which have really made developers pay heed to the green message.
Steve Oxley, deputy editor of Sustain Magazine, commented: "It's a massive issue. Legislation is one of the main driving factors for people considering it, but also the wider public are becoming more and more aware of it."
According to a recent report compiled by King Sturge, the construction of new buildings to meet the government's zero carbon targets could push up building costs by between 25 and 42 per cent.
In April's Budget Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling pledged £375 million to help businesses make their premises more energy efficient.
