Firms across the UK need more incentives to make the prospect of going green more attractive to them, it has been claimed.
James Murray, editor of BusinessGreen.com, said sustainable office design and the creation of greener products are in greater among consumers, although many firms are yet to be convinced they can afford to go green.
He commented: "More incentives is a big one, rolling out wider carbon pricing to boost energy bills and encouraging people to be more efficient with their energy is another big one."
Mr Murray added more people are becoming aware of their environmental impact and the government therefore needs to do more to give businesses the boost they need to embrace sustainable design practices.
According to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, a new £125 million fund has been launched by Hermes Private Equity - the Hermes Environmental Innovation Fund.
It will aim to actively invest in areas of innovation that could aid the environment.
