Businesses across the UK could benefit from the installation of new technologies that can help them improve their sustainable office design, it has been claimed.
Ronan Dunne, chief executive officer of O2, told listeners of the FT Connected Business podcast that the amount of information and power consumption from big business in the UK is increasing all the time, but the introduction of greener technology can help to reduce environmental impact.
He commented: "Over 90 per cent of our carbon footprint comes from electricity consumption, so that's where our focus is. And that is facilitated by smart metering so that we can get a handle on what we are using."
Jeremy Farrar, head of Oxford University Clinical Research Unit in Vietnam, recently told listeners of the Financial Times podcast that the government cannot afford to allow businesses to let the sustainability agenda fall by the wayside in the wake of financial uncertainty.
He noted that if targets on carbon reduction are to be met, concerted effort needs to be made to ensure investment in this area continues.
