The Body Shop has given its US headquarters a makeover designed to improve the efficiency of its staff, it has been reported.

Waist high cubicles and "soothing" green-coloured walls are part of office designs intended to improve the corporate surroundings of office workers.

New policy encouraging staff to be considerate to their colleagues is also in effect, while the etiquette of not making conference calls from one's desk, to minimise the impact on other office staff, is now encouraged, reports the publication.

According to the News & Observer, the Body Shop has also stated that the office has increased the amount of face-to-face contact between employees and the number of internal e-mails has fallen.

Offices have also been abolished, so that executives now have cubicles alongside their workmates.

Vicky Peltz-Moon, vice-president of human resources, told the publication: "There's something about an office that's slightly intimidating".

Indiana-based Business Furnishings recently told the South Bend Tribune that the sustainability of office furniture has become a priority for clients and is now as important as cost or aesthetics.
