Tips for energy savings

13-03-2008

A new report has suggested a number of office design and policy practices that can help reduce energy spending for commercial organisations.

The Climate Change Corporation report highlights various effective solutions that lowers spending costs and improves sustainability credentials.

By installing advanced metering systems, for example, businesses can gain greater control of the manner in which energy is used within the premises, with breakdowns and diagnostics of areas where the most energy is spent highlighting ways to reduce consumption.

"Free cooling" systems also allow businesses to lower costs by using ambient external temperatures to cool water and power air conditioning systems.

Energy-efficient IT systems are also an area to be considered for those looking to reduce electricity consumption, the report states.

In related news, the Wall Street Journal has also noted that sustainability is a key priority for big businesses in today's economic and environmental climate, with an ever-increasing number of large firms looking to reduce their carbon output
