Tips on 'greener office design'
06-08-2008
A construction and sustainability professional has given her views on how to create a greener office environment, it has been revealed.Renia Spong, environmental consultancy manager with Waste Watch Environmental Consultancy, told the construction site New Builder that a key prerequisite for "going green" is a reduction in the amount of waste which an office produces.
This can be achieved in a number of ways, Ms Spong noted.
According to Ms Spong, up to 70 per cent of office waste is paper and therefore recycling should be a key issue, while also efficient energy management can make a big difference, by making sure that all PCs are turned off over night and that all lights are switched off before the last person leaves, for example.
In other news, Lara Conaway, an expert on sustainable office design with Morgan Lovell, is to talk at a seminar in London in October about issues facing sustainable design and how to reduce energy consumption, cut carbon emissions and create sustainable business models.
