US-based social networking company Twitter is set to open its first office outside the country at premises in London.

Set to open next year, numerous sites are presently under consideration by the firm, with office interior space in London's West End currently being discussed.

Other potential properties include in the city's "silicon roundabout" area - situated at Old Street roundabout and known as such due to the number of web businesses that presently reside there.

A spokesperson for the company told the Telegraph: "We are considering London and other European locations to create an initial and small presence in 2011."

Elsewhere in the capital, media company Bloomberg recently announced plans for the creation of a new headquarters in the city.

Bloomberg has appointed Norman Foster to oversee the construction, with the 3.2-acre site in Walbrook Square already earmarked to deliver up to 50,000 sq ft of office interior space once complete.
