UK Businesses 'positive about environment'

UK businesses have a positive attitude toward the environment in the main, according to a new study.

A spokesperson from United Parcel Service (UPS), which commissioned an environmental survey of 1,451 European businesses, has said that the majority of firms in the UK accept that problems such as climate change and sustainability are serious and need to be addressed.

However, business leaders do view the UK as an environmentally unfriendly country overall, with UPS spokesperson Richard Currie saying that many view its efforts dimly in comparison with countries like Sweden.

Sweden is seen as having the best environmental record in Europe.

He added that businesses have been committed to sustainability projects - such as cutting office emissions - and stated that many are ready to do more.

"Maybe they feel that there's just a little bit more that we can do and should do. And hopefully, within their own companies and households, they will be doing that little bit more," he added.

Sustainable office design plans are growing in popularity among UK businesses, with many businesses applying for British Research Establishment Energy Assessment Methods (BREEAM) status.
