A report by the British Council for Offices (BCO) has highlighted the leading role the UK is playing in developing a set of standards for the improvement of office space around the world.
The study, entitled International Office Space - A Tale of Six Cities, showed the UK offers some of the highest-quality office interior space in the world and is the only country to have clear and concise guidelines in regard to the provision of office space.
Gordon Carey, former BCO president and driver behind the report, said: "Inconsistency in standards can negatively impact inward investment and erode rental levels and property values. The findings show that there is a strong case for the establishment of standards in distinct local markets."
The study examined office space in London, Abu Dhabi, Bangalore, Moscow, New York and Shanghai.
Meanwhile, Timothy Lambert, head of consulting at private wealth management firm Ducalian, recently claimed the UK commercial property sector is in a "state of flux" following the impact of the global economic downturn.
