Unimer opts for sustainability
03-03-2008
The UK's largest merchants' cooperative has announced that it has become a member of the UK Green Building Council (UK GBC) to further develop its sustainability credentials.Unimer has over 1,200 merchant members - as well as 700 supplier subscribers - and has a turnover of around £900 million.
Managing director Howard Grant says that the move will continue its development of sustainable economic, environmental and social management in business.
"In joining UK GBC, we are determined to keep Unimer and its merchant membership at the forefront of the developments on the sustainability agenda," he told the Builders' Merchants Journal.
He added that by tracking governmental policy and intiative developments, the consortium would be able to continue to hold its position at the frontline of the production of sustainable building materials and technologies.
The company has recently announced that it will be holding Unimer Day 2008 in July to further support its trading practices, including the development of sustainable design materials.
