Waste reduction 'can help firms save'

Businesses could reduce their spending through sustainable office design practices including reducing the amount of waste they create, it has been claimed.
Sam Jarvis, head of communications at Waste Watch, said companies are increasingly putting environmentally concerns to the fore and this has the added benefit of helping them to cut costs through the production of less waste.
He commented: "Businesses are increasingly making the environment one of the key factors, as well as looking at how much money and profit they make - they're looking at how they treat their staff and how they treat the planet.
Meanwhile, representatives from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department of Energy and Climate Change recently came together as part of the first meeting of the Green Economy Council on February 16th.
The group has been set up to examine how government and industry can collaborate to ensure a smooth transition to a low-carbon economy and minimise costs in the process.
