The Welsh Assembly has unveiled plans to develop a new sustainable design policy for firms in Wales.
Eco Design in Demand - a Cardiff-based initiative for creating sustainable design proposals - is to work with office design and property development firms for the next 12 months to develop a set of guidelines for ecologically sound office refurbishment in the country.
Frank O'Connor, director of EDC, commented: "Eco-design is good design and we need to create a demand for these products through public sector procurement. Doing so will send a clear signal about government leadership as the UK moves towards a low-carbon economy."
Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, the Empire State Building in New York is to receive a sustainable refit in order to improve its energy efficiency.
The building is to benefit from a $500 million (£339.9 million) overhaul which, once completed, could provide energy usage reductions of up to 40 per cent and save the building's owners $4.4 million per year in reduced energy bills.
