Welsh firm wins sustainability award
19-11-2008
A Welsh company has been recognised by the environment minister Jane Davidson for the construction of new buildings using 85 per cent recycled materials.Sustainable construction news website New Builder has reported that the Consortium of Local Authorities in Wales Sustainability Award has been given to the timberframe construction firm Torfaen.
White Design - a firm based in Bristol - designed the building in question; however, part of the brief was to incorporate a large concrete slab in to the construction, which was already on site.
In addition, Torfaen was praised for its use of locally sourced materials and the use of recycled fixtures and fittings inside the building.
Meanwhile, in related news, New Builder recently reported that another Welsh firm has received an award for its sustainable business model.
Holbrook TimberFrame has been voted one of Wales' Fastest Growth 50 companies for the third year running.
