Workers 'uninspired by office designs'

28-11-2007

Workers 'uninspired by office designs' Only a tenth of UK office staff describe their workplace as a "creative environment", according to a survey by Microsoft and The Work Foundation.

Furthermore, more than a third of respondents state that their office is "uninspiring".

Mobile working expert at Microsoft James McCarthy urges staff to consider leaving the desk and making the most of their office layout by walking around to talk to colleagues.

He explains that staff should prioritise their day so that they use time in the office for interpersonal activities, while writing up reports can be saved for a location better suited to complete concentration.

Mr McCarthy concludes: "Office noise is often seen as a distraction, when it is actually a good barometer for the creativity and energy of an office."

Office design specialist Morgan Lovell recently outlined a number of hints and tips to improve staff morale and productivity through the gloomy winter months such as changing lighting to "day-light" bulbs and installing a large natural summertime image.
