Three of the leading green building rating systems in the world are set to sign a memorandum of understanding regarding future sustainable design and construction methods.
The UK's BREEAM system, the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification scheme and Australia's Green Star label are developing a common metrics system to monitor and rate emissions of CO2, as well as a number of other sustainable features for new properties.
Paul King, chief executive of the UK Green Building Council, said: "I'm delighted they are now coming together to help create an international language that will enable us to talk with one voice about the vital role green buildings can play in creating a low-carbon future."
In related news, the Energy Saving Trust has announced that it has agreed a deal to relocate its head offices to a recently completed office refurbishment in Cardiff.
The development - 3 Assembly Square - has received a BREEAM rating of Excellent and benefits from sustainable design features such as a biomass boiler, chilled beams and rainwater harvesting.
