RWE npower
Office design & fit out project in London

Design powered by sustainability provides the Midas touch
When it comes to designing for energy companies there’s always one word that’s high on the agenda: Sustainability. Which is why RWE npower chose Morgan Lovell when they wanted their central London offices refurbishing. Because not only did they want to have a sustainable office, they wanted to achieve the highest possible UK standard in sustainable office fit outs. And, of course, we were happy to help them achieve it.
So, during this project, over 98% of materials were reused or recycled, including kitchen carcasses, workstations, tables and partitioning. Whilst 58m2 of carpet was reused, with the rest being recycled. Existing ceiling tiles were removed, cleaned and reused. And 100% of the timber used was diverted from landfill.
We installed energy efficient LED lamps and high frequency lighting throughout to reduce costs. And toilets were fitted with hippo bags to reduce water consumption by 33%. We even installed bike racks and lockers for cyclists to encourage cycling as an alternative mode of transport. And made recycling easy for the staff by creating a dedicated storage facility for recyclable waste.
In addition 98% of all construction and demolition waste was recycled, although this is very much standard practice at Morgan Lovell.
So what were the results? Not only was a Gold Ska* rating achieved but this project scored the highest Gold Ska rating in the UK, ever. Impressed? Looks like we struck gold.
*Ska is an assessment tool for sustainable office fit outs in the UK. It aims to improve environmental outcomes and recognises best practice across energy & CO2, waste, water, pollution, transport, materials and wellbeing. It also provides companies with a label that is clear and easy to understand: Gold, Silver and Bronze.
