Time for a change

Businesses evolve over time and so should their offices. Changes in technology, workplace trends and employee needs often present the opportunity to create a new working environment. Lovell Partnerships wanted a fresh outlook for its business to illustrate where it stands today.

The company focuses on building high-quality, innovatively designed apartments, townhouses and family homes that create welcoming communities where people want to live. But its corporate office wasn’t representative of its people-centred approach which drives business. So it’s no surprise that our fit out hardly feels like a traditional office at all. It’s a chic Clerkenwell address with residential flair, classic furniture and art deco-styling.

Arrive in style

Unlike most offices, this workplace doesn’t have a reception and you can see the entire floor plate from the entrance. The arrival scene takes in a client lobby, open plan workstations and some varied work settings, including informal breakouts and a coffee lounge.

We kept barriers to the bare minimum to make the most of the big, bold windows which skirt the perimeter of the building. The impact on arrival is instant and the 3,600 sq ft space feels like it extends outwards, right into the heart of trendy Clerkenwell. We created a lounge inspired by an upmarket hotel concierge with a plush teal sofa. Visitors can wait with a top-notch brew from the premium coffee machine and take in the views.

Art deco meets office

The arrival experience hints at the art deco-styling we’ve used throughout this office design and fit out. The distinctive teal colour of the sofa is used again for the bespoke kitchen cabinetry, carefully selected after many iterations to find the perfect hue. Orange, bronze and soft wood tones complete the art deco palette to complement the building’s 1930s-inspired facade.

Even the smallest details have tossed the office design handbook out the window. In the kitchen, matt black taps, bronze handles, an undermount ceramic sink and marble-topped counters are finishes not usually used in commercial settings. Similarly, a gorgeous broadloom cut carpet with a metallic sheen is underfoot in the boardroom, not run-of-the-mill carpet tiles which are more commonplace.

Focus of furniture

We loved selecting the mix of high-end furniture for this office, much of which makes the space feel like a lovely showroom. Decor gurus will instantly recognise some of the design classics we’ve incorporated, including distinctive Danish-designed Carl Hansen armchairs.

We’ve also provided high-backed booth seating, tan leather boardroom chairs, simple tables with clean angular legs and fingerprint-free matt desks. The company's intention is clear: employees should enjoy the same quality and experience as customers.
