‘That’s the way things are done around here’ perfectly sums up workplace culture. It’s the notion that an unspoken handbook prevails within your organisation determining the course of all interactions.

What does your space say about you?

You don’t need a sixth sense to feel the atmosphere of an organisation’s culture. The personality of your business is uniquely woven with your values, rituals, attitudes and behaviours. These come together to form an impression of who you are and what you stand for, whether positive or negative.

It’s evident in the way people greet each other and work together and in the way the workplace itself is designed and used. Is your office open plan with very few barriers? Your culture might be considered collaborative or informal, for example. Or, perhaps your workspace is cellular with private offices. Your culture may be more traditional. In this way your design can influence behaviour and attitudes towards work.
