Home News Morgan Lovell helps to deliver new Livability community hub
Wednesday, 9th September 2015
Morgan Lovell has been appointed by Livability, the UK’s largest Christian disability charity, to design and deliver the fit out of its new national office in Greenwich.
Morgan Lovell will be responsible for the Cat B refurbishment of 10,000 sq ft of office space in the Mitre Building, Greenwich Peninsula, which will accommodate 70 employees as they relocate from Liverpool Street.
As a large national charity, Livability delivers a variety of care and community work around the UK. Having a well-equipped national office is important to advance the charity’s ongoing operation and impact and, as the current office is out-of-date and lacking the necessary accessibility standards, this project will aim to help meet Livability’s core proposition of promoting equality and creating opportunities for disabled and disadvantaged people. The new space will have a column-free floor-plate that will help to ensure a much better experience for employees, clients and visitors, and is also close to North Greenwich station, which boasts step-free access.
Working closely with Livability, Morgan Lovell’s office design focuses on modernising the space, while ensuring that the client’s vision and values are carefully considered throughout. In order to meet all of the necessary standards, Morgan Lovell will be working with a Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) consultant and is also targeting a gold standard for accessibility.
As part of creating a space which is completely accessible to all levels of mobility, a lot of careful thought has been put into every aspect, including furniture. A selection of desks will be height adjustable for wheelchair users and break out booths will be open, with no high sides to ensure they’re completely inclusive. Different coloured carpeting is also to be featured and this will help visitors navigate through the office with ease, a crucial detail which is particularly helpful to clients or staff who may have learning difficulties.
Dave Webber, CEO at Livability adds:
"Throughout the office, mobility and the creation of a welcoming environment are the key themes. Morgan Lovell has put a tremendous amount of thought into each element of the design and we are very much looking forward to seeing its completion and beginning a new chapter.
Our move is not just a leap into a new office; it’s a leap into an entire new way of working for Livability. With regional and local teams around the country, it’s important to Livability that our national office can operate as an important community hub and gathering point for the Livability family as a whole. This new office will play a key role in how we provide our services and connect with staff, supporters and service users.
“We are delighted to have been selected by Livability as they begin to transform their new office space in line with their values. This project is vital to maintaining and supporting the wonderful work they do for the community, staff and volunteers and we are very much looking forward to continuing to work with them as they establish their new home.”
