Bausch + Lomb, a leading global eye health company dedicated to helping people see better to live better, wanted to modernise its Kingston workplace while adding a state-of-the-art centre of excellence to host, train and engage with eye care professionals on site.

We designed and delivered a full Cat B fit out on the ground and second floors while returning the first and third floors to shell and core, ready for future expansion or letting.

Focused on people and performance

The updated reception is welcoming, bright and open with bold brand colours, an illuminated logo and artwork that reflects the company’s work and global offices. A central desk sits with varied seating including a long collaboration table and relaxed lounge areas.

Past reception, the ground floor is a centre of excellence with a flexible showroom and training environment. The main space hosts up to 60 for training or more than 100 for town halls, supported by breakout areas and touchdown tables for smaller groups. Specialist features include blackout blinds for laser eye training, eye testing rooms, wet labs and advanced AV for live demonstrations between spaces. To get this right first time we visited a London optometry clinic and coordinated closely on specialist installations.

The second floor provides a dedicated working environment. Departments have their own desk areas alongside hot desks, collaborative zones and quiet spaces. A mix of meeting rooms, furniture pods and a larger boardroom gives choice and helps manage occupancy, with bench seating added where extra capacity is needed. Linear desks replaced bulky corner workstations, freeing space for more agile and productive ways of working.

An eye on sustainability and wellbeing

We advised Bausch + Lomb on sustainability options and achieved BREEAM Good through M&E upgrades, careful specification and a focus on waste reduction. Floor tiles were reused and large quantities of furniture were rehomed to local schools.

Wellbeing has improved with better lighting, calming finishes, planting and a green wall, a wellness room, upgraded showers and additional ground floor bathrooms for larger events. Tea points are fully DDA compliant and shared breakout areas offer a mix of seating to suit different needs.

Beyond the building, the team supported local eyesight charity Kingston Association for the Blind. In addition to a donation, our electrical services contractor George E Buxton Ltd carried out PAT testing on their electrical equipment, whilst our waste management contractor Lawmens removed unwanted furniture.

Framework for the future

The result is a building that works better for Bausch + Lomb. It supports specialist training, reflects a consistent global brand and gives staff a workplace designed around how they want to work today, while keeping the flexibility to adapt as the business grows.
