We crafted a small, yet capable and collaborative space in The City of London for the brilliant minds at BakerHicks.

Continually delivering extraordinary projects; from Britain’s most energy-efficient school, to a new cooling system for London’s busiest tube service, there’s little the creative design and engineering minds of BakerHicks can’t tackle. Their central London office had to be up to the same cutting-edge standards.

A space for everyone

The office’s open plan workstations are split into two areas either side of a flexible working core, designed to attract collaborative meetings into the middle of the workspace.

This also ensures workstations are around the outside of the floor plate, maximising exposure to natural light throughout the day.

The core’s centrepiece, designed for both visitors and employees, is a kitchen space, featuring plush booths and versatile furniture.

With touches of brass, timber highlights, black cabinets, and the striking burgundy walls, this breakout area is comfortable and cozy whilst remaining professional. Not only is this space perfect for lunch, but also it's versatile enough for solo working or an informal meeting.

How many meeting spaces can you fit into an 8,000 sq ft fit out? We made sure that the BakerHicks team had somewhere that colleagues could collaborate, whatever the team size or style of meeting.

What size collaboration would you like?

Small

For small meetings, two colleagues can meet casually, yet confidentially in one of the double-glazed meeting rooms, complete with relaxed lounge chairs.

Medium

For collaboration sessions, there are high-table 'war rooms' with writeable walls, or more traditional six-person seated rooms with integrated AV.

Supersize

Retractable walls were used between two meeting rooms to create a large 20+ seater boardroom, complete with black-out blinds and integrated AV.

Oversized high-backed meeting pods were selected to not only provide a splash of colour, but to help absorb excess acoustics from the open plan floorspace. Finished with integrated AV facilities, they're perfect for casual meetings or presentations of a non-confidential nature.

Importantly, we’ve installed the right acoustics and textured finishes to bring all these spaces together into one harmonious working environment for all.

Personal storage for site equipment is integrated throughout the office. Integrated into planters, shelving, dividing walls and bespoke joinery, you'll have to look carefully to find our hidden storage!

Employees were also given private lockers and hanging space in the reception, re-enforcing their activity-based working model and helping to promote a clean desk policy.
