Wavestone needed a workspace that could unify their growing team on a single floor to enhance collaboration and streamline communication. They envisioned a central hub that would attract their team members from all locations, bringing everyone together in one place. Essential to this was the inclusion of a town hall space, capable of hosting over 150 people, addressing a key issue in Wavestone's previous space. Located near Liverpool Street station, the new space had to be welcoming and accessible to all, with a focus placed on sustainability, wellness and technology to support communication with their global teams. Acoustics were also crucial to minimise noise in the busy, open office environment.

Flexibility for inclusivity

We met the brief by focusing on creating a flexible and future-proof workspace that aligns with Wavestone's needs and values. The design includes a variety of work settings—from open plan desk areas to quiet zones and breakout spaces. Special attention was given to designing a quiet area with neurodivergent staff in mind, featuring adjustable lighting and a calming colour palette. This allows employees to work without distractions, enhancing productivity.

First impressions mean everything

The first impression of the office was made welcoming and cosy by designing the central tea point and breakout area with soft furnishings, creating a living-room-like atmosphere. This space also doubles as a town hall meeting area, supporting Wavestone’s need to communicate with their growing staff numbers. Multiple tea points and refreshment areas were included throughout the office to promote staff wellbeing.

Wavestone’s new office is staff-centric, with permanent desks strategically placed to take full advantage of the views of Exchange Square’s green space. The flexibility of the office is further enhanced by moveable planters and furniture, allowing the space to be easily reconfigured as needed.

Acoustics were carefully considered to maintain a productive environment in the busy, open plan areas. We incorporated double glazing in meeting rooms and selected carpets and fabrics that actively reduce sound. Acoustic panels were not only functional but also added a unique character to the space as key design features.

Sustainable design and delivery

Sustainability was integral to the design. We used recycled materials and sustainably sourced timber wherever possible, retaining existing features like the ceiling to minimise waste. Furniture was reused and refreshed, with chairs being reupholstered instead of replaced. The Wavestone team were also involved in the final touches, such as naming meeting rooms after London parks and selecting fabrics used throughout the space.

Bringing Wavestone together

Wavestone were delighted with the outcome, as the design not only met but exceeded their expectations. The new office has successfully brought their staff back together, encouraged a renewed sense of community and collaboration. The flexible and inclusive design has not only enhanced everyday working life but has enabled them to host the entire business in one central location, which contributes to improving morale and the sense of community throughout the business.

The focus on sustainability and wellbeing has resonated deeply with their team, contributing to a workspace that is not just functional, but also inspiring and supportive of everyone’s needs. The result is a dynamic, welcoming environment that truly reflects Wavestone’s values and future aspirations. It paves the way to attracting and retaining the young talent Wavestone were aiming for.
