See what happened

Making their move from serviced offices into their first London home, global real estate technology provider, MRI chose Morgan Lovell to design and deliver their youthful new fit out.

The Brief

MRI understood that investing in an engaging workplace can help attract and retain their industry’s best talent. That’s why they decided to move from a serviced office space to their new home in order to attract the attention of software developers in their early twenties. They’re a global operation, yet still very much with the spirit of a start-up, so we had to find a practical, functional and vibrant middle ground to help them compete for talent with global tech giants. It had to be young and inspirational.

The design

Upon walking into the open plan space, you’re greeted with a living wall and a relaxed waiting area with coloured sofas and soft furnishings. This open plan feel is reflected throughout the space with open desk spaces void of traditional workstations and desk dividers. Layered colours and textures are then used create a bold finish and sense of personality.

Reflecting the brand

We maintained an open and airy feeling through the use of light timber floorboards which are contrasted throughout the shared space with a black ceiling and exposed services. The youthful nature of the brand is further heightened by the use of bold colours, textures and bright furnishings. The colours of the office are both invigorating and inspirational; from the sky blue in the breakout and games room, to the yellow used in the kitchen walls.

A place for the whole team

The new tea point, kitchen and lounge are were specifically designed to enable staff to collaborate away from their desks and also socialise throughout the day. The kitchen is bright and youthful, with modern grey tiles contrasted with yellow walls – all making for a very trendy teapoint!

Staff are able to work from any of the meeting rooms, breakout space and even the kitchen, due to the office’s enabling technology. We also installed electronically adjustable standing desks to allow staff to work while standing; adding additional health and wellbeing benefits to the fit out.

This reflects their adoption of activity based working, ensuring that staff can pop down at any area within the office and resume their work where they left off. Removing the traditional desk dividers enhances the sense of openness throughout the fit out.

A bright future

Streaks of bright blue are used throughout the fit out; on the walls, as accents on the carpet and in the furniture choices. This is then combined with a colourful furniture selection (such as yellow, royal blue and grey meeting room chairs, and a striking red sofa) to provide a strong sense of personality to the otherwise compact office. We chose to use furniture pieces as a focal point to ensure that the design elements were both practical and functional.
